Fun Facts Friday

CHILL BABY,  CHILL....

If your baby's hands & feet are chilly to the touch
don't be in a rush to crank up the thermostat or
bundle them up in another blanket, feel their torso.
If their tummy is warm and pink, your baby isn't chilled. For the first few months a baby's circulatory system is still developing, blood is directed to vital organs and other systems, where it is needed most. A baby's hands and feet are the last body parts to get a good blood supply. It can take several months for a baby's circulation to fully adapt to life outside the womb. during these months it's common for tiny fingers and toes to feel chilly and even look a little pale.  As your baby becomes more mobile and active, their circulation will improve.

♥ ~ More than Monday ~ ♥

About 7 years ago my brother & his wife gave me the incredibly generous gift of traveling to Ireland with them & my mom. When I look through the photos from the trip, it amazes me how they can take me in time. Ireland is a powerful place, the sights, sounds & smells stay have stayed close to the surface in my memory.  While the entire trip was AMAZING, this place,  the Cliffs of Moher, and the sound of the ocean some 700+ feet below took my breathe away and still do when I look at the pictures.

Inspiration comes in different ways on different days for all of us...

Fun Facts Friday

A Little Brain Power to Last a Lifetime...
Nutrition plays a critical part in a baby's brain development. Breast milk offers the best mix of nutrients for promoting brain growth. Starting at about 6 months of age breast-fed baby's should receive some type of iron supplement. Infant cereals that are iron fortified are a perfect way of giving baby this very important mineral.  Baby's who are bottle fed should be given formula that contains iron.

Did You Know?
Research has clearly linked iron deficiency to cognitive deficits in children. Iron is critical for maintaining a healthy level of  red blood cells that carry oxygen, which is the fuel your child need for brain growth. It has been proven that children who endure iron deficiency actually have smaller brain mass.

(not such a) Fun Fact Friday

Current statistics show that nearly one in three mothers in the U.S. gives birth by Cesarean section which is a record high rate for America. One of the top reasons for the increase in C-sections is rising number of doctors who are hesitant to perform vaginal births after Cesarean. Doctor's once speculated that the danger of a uterine rupture was more likely to occur with women who had previously given birth by C-Section. However new medical studies
have found this happens in only one percent of the cases. Unfortunately regardless of these new findings many doctor's still refuse to perform vaginal births rather than C-Sections because of a fear of malpractice lawsuits. While a fear of lawsuits plays a major role in the rising in number of C-sections there are possible risks for babies born by C-sections. For instance, they are more likely to develop respiratory problems such as asthma. Mothers also have a higher risk of infection, long term pelvic pain, blood clots, and the C-Section procedure may even complicate future pregnancies. Every pregnancy is unique and decisions should be made by exploring all options with a qualified physician.
