BABY QUIZ - FACT OR FICTION?
WEEK #5
BABY QUIZ - FACT OR FICTION?
WEEK #5
A baby's development pattern is predetermined.
FALSE: There is no preset alarm clock that determines when a baby will gain new skills & abilities. Sensory pathways grow when they are appropriately stimulated with the proper frequency, intensity, and duration.
For example, a newborn usually has a less than a perfect visual light reflex (when a baby is exposed to light and the pupil constricts in response to that light). The sooner this reflex matures and becomes consistent, the sooner baby will develop the ability to see outline and then detail.
In most babies, this reflex is stimulated by accident whenever the baby is taken from darkness to light, but a mother can arrange for that 'accident' to happen with greater frequency and intensity so that the visual pathway grows more quickly in response to the enhanced stimulation. The development of language, touch sensory, crawling, walking and eye hand skills can all be stimulated in the same way through frequency & duration.

More than Monday...much more!!!
My "More than Monday" posts are normally done the night before & up by 7:00am but not today! This Monday and these past 6 days have been FULL of inspiration for me! My beautiful Mom had a bad fall on the 17th in the night (we are thankful it wasn't worse) but nonetheless it was definitely bad enough!!! She broke the pubic bone in her pelvic and I can't even imagine the pain she has been in. Yet I've watched her in these days lean on her inner strength & her deep faith to work through each painful movement. After having a stroke in 2009 she worked tirelessly to regain her complete independence. And now being faced with this uphill challenge that promises to be a difficult and painful 8-10 week recovery my mom still finds the grace & strength to persevere and to run the race that is set before her. I love you Mom, you truly are an AMAZING woman and an inspiration to me & so many others!

BABY QUIZ - FACT OR FICTION?
WEEK #4
BABY QUIZ - FACT OR FICTION?
WEEK #4
Breastfeeding is easy.
False: The reality is that breastfeeding isn't always easy. Even though breastfeeding is medically best for most babies, it's not always possible. Some babies are allergic, or some mothers have medical reasons prohibiting them from breastfeeding. Consulting with your doctor or a lactation professional can assist in making breastfeeding a wonderful experience. Breastfeeding is a skill the a new mother and baby need to learn to do well together.

More Than Monday
While the birdie in the picture is not the little Wren who has been waking us every morning at about 5:30am, this is exactly what he looks like. Isn't he cute. I do have to admit that 5:30 is a little earlier than I like to be woken up but this sweet little bird's song does start my day on an inspired note.

BABY QUIZ - FACT OR FICTION?
WEEK #3
A newborn babies primary function is to eat and sleep.
False: They are doing a huge number of things internally, they are very intent human beings determined to overcome difficult circumstances such as blindness, deafness and immobility. At birth, a baby is born functionally blind, deaf, and immobile. Baby's bodies & brains are full of sensory and motor pathways that grow and develop through stimulation. Interacting with your child through verbal communication and eye contact really help with stimulation but even without your constant attention human instinct for self preservation is strong. Babies can self stimulate, by looking at their surroundings, listening intently to noises and by kicking and moving their arms & legs. While many of these movements may be involuntary they are inner connected to the sensory pathways that need to be strengthened.

Every pair of sweet little feet is an inspiration to me! Look at how those little toes flex and bend to grip and balance as they walk.
This is what inspires me to create Mini-Mocs! See how the supple soft premium leather flexes easily with every natural movement of baby's walking feet. I never imagined that those tiny little toes could bring such BIG INSPIRATION!

BABY QUIZ - FACT OR FICTION?
WEEK #2
You should know the difference between every cry your baby makes.
FALSE: This is not the case at all. You are still a good mom even when it feels like you might not be able to fix every problem the moment your baby cries. You and your baby need to get to know one another. It takes time to understand the difference between the cry for "I'm hungry" and "I need my diapers changed". Rest assured you will become fluent in this is a language over time.

More Than Monday
The past few days have been challenging for me - I can't put my finger on exactly what was causing me to feel a sense of uneasiness. Yesterday I ended the day by sitting out on my back patio, closing my eyes and going away in my mind...the slight breeze in the air, the sound of singing birds all around me and the warmth of the sun on my face inspired me to imagine myself laying in a field of flowers overlooking the most magnificent view! I really needed that little mini-trip!
