Sunday Funnies

i was looking through our local paper today and came across a comic strip. it brought to the forefront a wonderful memory from my childhood. when i was a little girl every sunday after breakfast my dad would sit in his favorite chair (an eames like the one pictured) and read the Sunday Funnies. many times we would curl up in his lap and onto the broad arms of the chair (with 7 kids 1 lap only goes so far) to listen as he read. every week the newspaper would publish a humerous story or joke written by one of my dad's favorite writers. he would read that to us after he was done reading the comics. sometimes we were too young to really understand the punchline but even when that was the case hearing my dad laughing out loud at a silly story or joke would get us giggling.

February 22nd - SUNDAY FUNNY

Sherlock Holmes and Watson were on a camping and hiking trip. They had gone to bed and were lying there looking up at the sky. Holmes said, "Watson, look up. What do you see? "Well, I see thousands of stars." "And what does that mean to you?" "Well, I guess it means we will have another nice day tomorrow. What does it mean to you, Holmes?" "To me, my dear Watson it means someone has stolen our tent."
stop by next week for another SUNDAY FUNNY! - "How to give your cat a pill"

LOL silly duck!

44

well today is president's day. while this fact entered my mind last evening when i thought to myself "bummer...the post office won't be opened tomorrow" this same thought must have leaked out of my brain sometime during the night. feeling great about getting an early start to the day i arose and rushed off only to find locked doors on a building that i have come to depend on. presidents day hmmm..... let's see our current president is number 44 and hey i'm 44 years YOUNG!

what other wonderful things does this number 44 belong too?

Bill Clinton (the 42nd President) and George W. Bush (the 43rd President) were born 44 days apart in the summer of 1946. (which in this case was lightyears apart)

Vicks Formula 44 is a cough suppressant that has come in quite handy this year (you should try the vapo-rub too)

44 is a poker game (yes i'm a gambler at heart but never with real money)

The code for international direct dial phone calls to the United Kingdom (home of some of my favorite musical groups & singers)

Forty-four is a tribonacci number, a happy number and an octahedral number. (if you can understand how any of this works you're too smart to be reading this blog)

The retired numbers for former baseball players Hank Aaron, Willie McCovey and Reggie Jackson; the number is sometimes considered to be a "hitter's number". (there is nothing as wonderful as the sound of a solid hit that makes it into the stands and the roar of the crowd as a player rounds the bases....oh come on baseball season i can hardly wait)
so while we've had lots of great presidents in our country's history worth celebrating i think today i'll celebrate the number 44 - 'cause in a 10 days i'll be 45 and those days of celebrating 44 will be gone.

My Funny Valentine

happy valentine's day to all ~ the rain has stopped & once again turned to snow. we woke to a world of white this morning, so clean, so fresh, so really beautiful!!! as i stared out the window my mind wondered to a wonderful place. i thought how fun it would be if i could get enough food coloring to change the snow to pink and write my sweetest, loving *and still sleeping* husband a message in the snow for valentine's day. i grabbed my camera & took a picture of our yard from our bedroom window, did a little photoshopping & when he woke this image was standing on the night stand next to him! i heard a chuckle and a voice call out to me "i love you too my funny valentine!"

it got me to thinking about the thousands of wonderful, clever and funny things i've come across on Etsy - here's a tiny glimpse at a few of my favorites! ENJOY a smile courtesy of some wonderfully talented and clever Etsy Sellers!!!

Today Rain Feels Like A Drop of Sunshine!

it's a wonderful rainy wednesday here. the sound of the rain hitting the rooftop and windows simply hypnotizes me. please don't misunderstand while i absolutely love watching a heavy winter snow fall transform my yard into a monochromatic wonderland i guess i've just had enough of it for now. the rain is bringing a welcome reprieve. it's a perfect day to sit at my sewing machine and work. and every now and again i will look up out onto my yard and see my first glimpse of grass peeking through traces of what's left of the white winter blanket. a wonderful wednesday to you all!
